The Coastal Ranges across the straight.
Herring boats were out and about!
I really wasn’t going to post today. Three blog postings yesterday seemed like enough; but the winds of yesterday blew away the clouds and today the West Coast is glorious.
One of my favorite images of the park.
Neck Point was stunning. We could see all the way to the Coastal Ranges. Herring boats were out. Birds were everywhere.
Tree tops, blue sky, how perfect is that.
Sophie took us a different route today. We crossed up and over the point, through the wooded areas’ in the center. We usually just walk around the tip. The tree tops were impressive, outlined against the brilliant blue sky.
Abandoned!
There was a large abandoned “something” on top of the point, slightly screened by underbrush, perhaps almost invisible in the summer.
The grassland meadow in the center was full of movement as the wind blew across. The dried grasses were pale golden and the dried seed pods added bright and dark notes to the movement across the tips of the grass.

There was an Eagle soaring lazily overhead, coasting the winds as they across the point. On the one side waves were crashing into the shore and the rocks and the gulls and herring boats fought the wind. On the other side the water was quiet the waves were small close to shore but you could see the break line where the Point no longer protected the water from the winds force.

On the quiet side of Neck Point were the birds; a pair of Harlequin Ducks; Cormorants – a dozen or more; gulls, resting over almost every exposed rock; and new to me, Black Oystercatchers. And that was only on one rock!

On the rock next was a quieter collection of birds; a small flock of resting birds and some larger birds – both unidentified! Got any idea’s! The closest I can find in my book is Sanderlings. But I really was too far away for my camera’s zoom.

A walk into a ghostly forest!
It really is a gorgeous day – it feels like Spring. I have baked a Wacky cake – my father’s favorite as he is coming for dinner. There is a pot of beef soup simmering on the stove for lunches this week.
I want to save up for a new lens – a wide-angle one I think, something to capture more types of pictures.
And I really should settle in for some knitting, but I have a few other things to get ready for dinner and I am almost ready for another walk – once the curling is over!
